Willis Gerald Starnes

Mr. Willis Gerald “Bill” Starnes, 83, of Ackerman, MS, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Choctaw County Nursing Home in Ackerman, MS.   Funeral services will be held at  11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 6th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Faulk officiating.  Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.  Porter Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of arrangements.    

Bill was born on April 18, 9141, to Cay and Addie McBride Starnes.   A longtime resident of Ackerman, he was a member of Chester Baptist Church.  Bill enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the old family home place.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Childress Starnes; his sisters, Vera Lois Henderson, Mildred Ballard, Eunice Crittenden, Barbara Starnes, Bessie McMillian, and Mary Ann Hirose; and his brothers, Donald Paul Starnes, Harold Starnes, Larry McBride Starnes and Randy Starnes.    

He is survived by three sisters, Mamie Ruth Dickerson of Ackerman, Saundra Wright of Fentress, and Opal Starnes Prewitt of Texas; a brother, Howard Starnes of New Orleans, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and many life long friends. 

Pallbearers will be David Starnes, Paul Starnes, Tyler Flake, and Taylor Flake.

Memorials in Bill’s memory may be made to French Camp Academy or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
