William "Son" Easterling

Mr. William Alton “Son” Easterling, 82, passed away on January 7, 2025, at the VA Nursing Home in Kosciusko, MS. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 8th, at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

“Son”, as he was known to family and friends, was born July 2, 1942, in Forrest, MS. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the only survivor of a crew of nine involved in a combat related helicopter crash, and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Easterling and Loretta Wade; and his wife, Julie Childress Easterling. 

He is survived by his children, Tim Easterling, David Easterling, Jason Easterling, Billy Culpepper, Brenda Santos, Teresa Easterling, and Ursula Blackard; two sisters, Sue Gainey and Rebecca Clendenen; and one brother, James Easterling.
