Tony Thompson

Mr. Tony Barrett Thompson, 77, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 3rd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Lundy and Rev. Eugene Duran officiating.  Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery.  Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.      

Tony was born May 22, 1946, in Philadelphia, MS.  He was a graduate of Neshoba Central High School, and was Assembly of God by faith.    Tony was a mechanic and owned his own shop in the Nanih Waiya community for many years.  He loved farming, and  raised quail and cattle.  He served in the Mississippi National Guard.  

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Code and Pauline Barrett Thompson; and his brothers and sisters, Paul Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Shirley McMillin, Kay Haas, and Jo Massey. 

He is survived by his wife, Jimmy Dianne Gregory Thompson of Louisville; a daughter, Tonya Burkett of Atlanta, GA; his brother-in-law, Doug (Sandy) Gregory of Hernando, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.   

Memorials in Tony’s memory may be made to Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery Fund, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
