Sherman Presley

May 14, 1932 — January 27, 2019

Mr. Sherman Ancel Presley, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at his home in Louisville, MS, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 31st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Trent Jaudon, Rev. Chris Vowell, and Rev. Jason Gross officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and from 10:00 A.M. Thursday until service time. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.   Mr. Presley was born during the Depression on May 14, 1932, to Kirk and Onie Presley in Winston County. He married Christine Jones on April 28, 1951. They started their marriage in Fort Jackson, SC, in the military. Sherman went to barber school, and barbered in Memphis from 1954-1958, then moved to Louisville and was a barber there until 1972. Sherman started work with Hughes Construction in 1972 and worked in different capacities until his retirement. Sherman was an avid hunter, fisherman, and pit master. He excelled at quail hunting and crappie fishing, and had many memorable hunts and fishing trips over the course of his life. Sherman honed his skills as a pit master over several decades. Family celebrations on the Fourth of July were greatly anticipated for our entire family.  Sherman and Christine would cook a whole hog and invite family and friends to celebrate with them. They would feed over 100 people, and no one would go away hungry. Epic penny-ante poker games were played after these meals. He was preceded in death by his spouse of 61 years, Christine Jones Presley; his parents; and one brother, Shelby Presley.     He is survived by his children, Ron (Cindy) Presley, Linda (Terry) Holder, and Don (Nancy) Presley; grandchildren, Allison (Tracy) Caston, Amy (Todd) Treon, Stephanie (James) Fuller, Mary (Adam) Nordan, and Alexandra Presley; great grandchildren, Ava Caston, Anna Katherine Treon, Adalyn Caston, Colton Nordan, Jackson Treon, Hudson Treon, and James Roland Fuller; brothers and sisters, Salathiel Presley, Sue Clinton, Helen Bynum, William “Sonny” Presley, and Patricia Presley; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dr. Harry Cosby, Ed Gresham, Jamie McMillin, Michael Presley, Dr. Marc Presley, Roger Bynum, Frank Bynum, and Charles Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Moody, Dr. Spiva Gene Richardson, Randy Hodges, Wendell Rogers, Ester Taylor, Gary Hughes, and Niles McNeel. Memorials may be made to the Winston County Library, Le Bonheur Hospital, and St. Jude Hospital. A special thanks to his and Christine’s caregivers that allowed both of them to remain in their home until the end, and as Christine said, “Go out feet first.” Thanks to Sta-Home Hospice, his daughter, Linda Holder, and his sister, Patricia Presley, and many other family members and friends. Their care of Mom and Dad was truly one of love and well above the call of duty.
