Mrs. Mary Ann Sessions, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at St. Martin’s in the Pines in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 21st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Dowd officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Long Beach City Cemetery, in Long Beach, MS. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mary Ann was born June 24, 1928, in Winston County, MS. She was a graduate of Lobutcha High School, East Central Community College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a long time resident of Long Beach, MS where she was a school teacher for many years at Long Beach High School. She was known for her love of gardening and telling stories and jokes. She also was devoted to her volunteer work for various organizations, including Winston County Hospital. During her retirement years, she relocated to Winston County, MS and more recently to Birmingham, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Sessions; her parents, Clara Watts Tabor and William Earl Tabor, Sr.; her sisters, Ruth Kitchens (Bill), Becky Dorroh, Betty Lou Burchfield (Bill), and Doris Steed (Junior); a sister-in-law, Frances Tabor; her brothers, Tuck Tabor and William E. “Bill” Tabor, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Walter) Sorensen of Trussville, AL; a son, Joe (Millie) Sessions of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Larry Tabor (Marilyn) of Starkville, MS; and four grandchildren, Lia Sorensen, Laina Sorensen, Bryan (Ariel) Wheeler-Sessions, and Mark Sessions; and two great grandchildren, Henry Wheeler-Sessions and Cooper Wheeler-Sessions. She is also survived by a large extended family with whom she was very close, including brother-in-law Charles Dorroh. Memorials may be made to Rural Hill Methodist Church (Winston County, MS) or M. D. Anderson Hospital (Houston, TX).
