Dr. Jody Belle Deramus, age 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 9, 2018. She was a resident of Chantilly, Virginia, at the time of her death from West Nile Fever. She was born September 18, 1942, in Louisville, Mississippi, the daughter of Marion Andrew Hindman and Letha Olene Jenkins Hindman. Jody graduated from Louisville High School, and then earned her undergraduate degree in music from Mississippi State University. Post graduate work was done at the University of Mississippi, where she graduated with a PHD in Music. Dr. Deramus focused her time and energy on a career in education. She taught music and voice at Mississippi College, the University of Mississippi, and Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She established the Frank MingDeramus Memorial Foundation and for several years donated scholarships to graduating seniors in Winston Academy and students at the University of Mississippi who were interested in a career in Law. Dr. Deramus, who was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Ming Deramus, leaves behind one brother, Carl Hindman of Olive Branch, MS; two sisters, Ruth Noe of Memphis, TN, and Helen Bush of Humble, TX; one sister-in-law, Claudine Hindman of Louisville, and a first cousin, Betty Jo Miles of San Diego, CA. She also leaves nieces, Peggy Hindman, Patty Mitchell, Penny Bowman, Leah Boydstun, all of Louisville; Pam Howard of Laurel, MS, Anita Watkins of Germantown, TN; Teresa Sherer of Jasper, AL; and Cynthia Reynolds of Jackson, MS. Nephews include Paul Hindman of Jacksonville, FL; Perry Hindman of Louisville, MS; Phillip Hindman, Pete Hindman, and Patrick Hindman, all of Tuscaloosa, AL; Russell Noe of Collierville, TN; Ray Noe of Memphis, TN; David Hindman of Charlotte, NC; Jeff Hindman of Collierville, TN; Jason Hindman of Olive Branch, MS; and Kenneth D. Bush of Seabrook, TX. Visitation for Dr. Deramus will be held at Murphy Creek Baptist Church on Monday, November 19th, from 12:00 noon until service time. The service will follow, also at Murphy Creek Church, at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Phillip Hindman, Perry Hindman, Patrick Hindman, Dale Bush, Russell Noe, and Dale Watkins.
