Mr. James Norwood “Jimmy” McWhirter, 75, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 23rd, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Newlie Long officiating. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jimmy was born May 6, 1943, in Winona, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School and East Central Junior College. He was an electrician with McWhirter Electric Co. and T. L. Ward Electric Co. for many years. He was a member and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church. Jimmy was very active in the community and was a volunteer with the Winston County Civil Defense for over 25 years, and with the Louisville Fire Department for over 46 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janell McWhirter, and his parents, Alice and Norwood McWhirter. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Pearson of Louisville; a son, Barry (Tonya) McWhirter of Louisville; one granddaughter, Cassi Pearson, and fiancée, Trevor; a sister, Wanda (Troy) Ward of Louisville, and a brother, Bobby (Pat) McWhirter of Louisville. Pallbearers will be Haley Ward, Jeff McWhirter, Ricky Hill, Kyle Fulton, Brad Hodges, and Stephen Hunter. Memorials may be made to the Senior Adults or Music Fund at First Baptist Church, Louisville, MS.
