James Kenneth Koon

Mr. James Kenneth Koon, Sr., 86, a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, passed away on May 28, 2020, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at First Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Porter Funeral Home is charge of the service. Ken was born August 9, 1933, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to James Edward and Martha Rucker Koon. He graduated from Elizabeth Messick High School in Memphis, TN; and received his degree in business administration from Memphis State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Ken’s professional career included associations with Georgia Pacific, Louisiana Pacific, and Taylor Machine Works. He most recently served as marketing director for CAHABA Forging and Supply Co. of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was an Air Force veteran, where he served as a pilot. His call name was “Tree Top”, referring to his 6’ 7” height. He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church of Louisville. Ken was a much beloved story teller, and entertained family and friends with detailed stories and vivid tales. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, James Kenneth Koon, Jr., a sister, Patsy Jean Haun; and a brother, Craig Lee Koon. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Lovvorn “Tibby” Koon; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Koon of Louisville; a sister, Claire Koon Haun of North Little Rock, AR.; three grandchildren, Jerry Koon, Jamie Koon, and Fields Major; one great granddaughter, Myla Klair Koon; and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
