George Edmonds

Mr. Glen George “Junky” Edmonds, 69, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 22nd, at First Baptist Church of Mathiston, with Rev. Brad Latham officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home; and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Craig Springs Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

George was born June 17, 1955, in Oktibbeha County, MS, to Archie Lee and Mary Clyde Hamill Edmonds. He was a graduate of Sturgis High School. He retired after 33 years as an officer with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. George was a member of Masonic Lodge #365 in Sturgis, and was a member of the Mathiston Baptist Church. He was a cowboy and loved raising horses. He spent many hours with his horses and going on trail rides with his friends. George loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports. If there was a game going on he wanted to be there. He was their biggest supporter. He loved his family and friends and animals with all his heart. There was never a time he wouldn’t drop everything he was doing to help his family or friends when they needed him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Lee Farley; and a brother, Jerry Edmonds. 

He is survived by his wife, Thelia Ford Edmonds of Mathiston, MS; three daughters, Jorga (Chris) Wilson of Brandon, MS, Amber (Charlie) Williamson of Louisville, MS, and Jennifer (Stacy) Garner of Columbus, MS; a step-son, Jeremy (Rebekah) Sutton of Citrus Springs, FL, and a step-daughter, Amber (Mark) Grey of Belden, MS; a sister-in-law, Katie Edmonds of Starkville, MS; and grandchildren, Trey Williamson, Brayleigh Williamson, and Mary Falon Wilson, and step-grandchildren, Easton Sutton, and Kayson Sutton. 

Pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Charlie Williamson, Stacy Garner, Trey Williamson, Will Hutchinson, Rudy Johnson, Stan Bryant, and Chuck Dawkins.

Memorials in George’s memory may be made to the Mississippi Troopers Assn, or the Crais Springs Cemetery Fund, or Masonic Lodge #365 in Sturgis, MS.
