Mr. Charles Thomas Smyth, 77, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Winston Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 19th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Jim Garner officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Charles was born May 4, 1944, in Louisville, MS, to Ben and Catherine McGahey Smyth. He was a 1962 graduate of Louisville High School. He then received his BBA from the University of Mississippi. He attended the Bank Examiners School in Washington, DC, and basic computer school in Birmingham, AL; as well as continuing education seminars in hospital and nursing home management. Charles had a varied career, having owned and managed Smyth Farm; owner and manager of McKay’s Grocery; staff accountant for Sinclair and Associates; and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Interim Administrator of the Winston County Community Hospital. He served in the Mississippi National Guard. He was very active in the community and served on the board of the Flower Ridge Water Assn. Charles was an Eagle Scout, and an avid duck hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Louisville Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Ben Smyth, and a son, James Lee Smyth. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly Mills Smyth of Louisville; a son, Leslie (Bridgette) Smyth of Dallas, TX; a sister, B. J. Kelleghan of Louisville; and three grandchildren, Ryan Smyth, Bailey Creed, and Lily Smyth. Pallbearers will be Ken Mills, Brian Mills, Steven Yarbrough, Thomas Files, Tim Williamson, Jason Carr, and William Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be Moe Yarbrough, Jimmy Yarbrough, Fred Howard Childs, Fred “Sonny” White, J. J. Ward, David Wilson, Ronnie Eubanks, Therrill Files, and Bobby Clark.
