Rachel Claudine Stevens

Mrs. Rachel Claudine Stevens, 91, died peacefully after a lengthy illness at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS, on Saturday, June 26th, surrounded by her devoted children and a loving niece. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday at Noxapater Baptist Church, with interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 Pm until service time at the church in Noxapater. Porter Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of arrangements. At the age of 9, Mrs. Steven’s family moved from Philadelphia to Noxapater. She graduated from Noxapater High School and from a business college in Tupelo. She worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. C. G. Blue in Louisville before her marriage in August 1940 to Thomas F. Stevens. During World War II, T. F. was stationed in Colorado and Florida and Claudine spent that time with him before he was transferred to Germany. She worked for 30 years for the Bank of Noxapater. After her husband’s death in 1985, she lived with her daughter in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James Kimbol McCown of Amory. She is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Paul) Crow of Greenwood, MS, and Rachel (Lamar) Crocker of Tupelo, MS; a son, Steve (Arlena) Stevens of Amory, MS; two sisters, Juanita Hight of Louisville, and Bobby Jean Wall of Belmont, MS; five grandchildren, LuAnn (Brian) Green, Penny (Bill) Stalcup, Paige (Brad) Lawrence, Steven Crocker, and Jefferson (Carie) Crow; five great grandchildren, James Hunter Stalcup, McCown Stalcup, Ben Lawrence, Hudson Lawrence, and Ryleigh Green; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, Noxapater Baptist Church, or Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund.
