Jean Linch Calvert

Mrs. Jean Linch Calvert was born on September 9, 1931 in Louisville, MS to Myrtle Woodruff Linch and Grover Linch. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband , Pruitt Calvert; brothers, Hiram (Berta) Linch, Harry (Margaret) Linch, G.C. Linch, and Garvin (Virgie) Linch; sister, Catherine (Ray) Johnston; and niece, Debra Linch. She was married to Pruitt for almost 65 years. They enjoyed working side by side at Winston Furniture Company, their photography studio, and traveling with Pruitt’s “Aunt Blabby” comedy routine. Jean graduated from Louisville High School in 1949 where she was an honor student, cheerleader, and Miss L.H.S. She attended East Central Junior College for one year before her marriage to Pruitt in 1950. They were blessed with two children, Kaye (Darwin) Jordan and Speedy (Jamie) Calvert; five grandchildren, Chase Jordan, Anna Kate (Bryson) Pankey, John Darwin Jordan, Nathan Calvert, and Lucas Calvert; and five great grandchildren, Lyla Pankey, Hudson Pankey, Harper Jordan, Easton Jordan, and Cohen Jordan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mildred Calvert; nieces, Patty (Dereck) Pace, Kim (Jeff) McMinn, and Kathy Johnston; and nephews, Lee (Shala) Johnston, Russ Linch, Hank Linch, Mike Calvert, and David (Jennifer) Calvert, and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Louisville since age 10. She taught First Grade Sunday School, and was co-outreach leader in Adult 7 Sunday School Department. She was also involved in Women’s Missionary Union for over 60 years. Mrs. Calvert was also past president of the Wednesday Culture Club, charter member of Belle Arts Club, charter member and past president of Red Hills Art Association. She served on the Christmas Parade Committee for many years. She was a poet and an artist. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 31st, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Darwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Chase Jordan, John Darwin Jordan, Bryson Pankey, David Calvert, Landon McMinn, Nathan Calvert, Lucas Calvert, and Ben Pace. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Missions, or Grace Christian School. “One life, will soon be past, only what is done for Christ will last.”
