Newton Eldredge Miles died of Alzheimer’s disease on December 13th, 2016 at his home in La Mesa, CA. He was born in New Orleans, LA, on October 22nd, 1928, to the late Newton Bradford Miles and late Alma Hemphill Miles of Louisville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, the late Elvin Miles; and two sisters, the late Doris Miles Long and the late Devenny Miles Parkes. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville. He graduated from Louisville High School in 1946, and received his degree in accounting from San Diego University. He served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 and was of veteran of the Korean War. He was executive controller for Continental Bakery in San Diego, CA for 38 years, and office manager for Holsum Bakery for 5 years. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Jo Hindman Miles, of 65 years. She is the daughter of the late Prentiss Edward Hindman and late Nora Jenkins Hindman of Louisville. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM on June 17th, 2017, at Porter Funeral Home with the memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Murphy Creek Baptist Church fund, or a charity of your choice.
