Mr. James Elliot Peterson, 93, died March 28, 2016, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 3rd, at 1:30 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Louisville. Rev. Scott Phillips will be officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Peterson was born June 5, 1922, in Grove City, MN. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota, and worked for many years as a forestry consultant. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. During World War II , he served in the 503rd Parachute Infantry Reg. and in Korea in the 2nd Infantry Division, ASTP. During his time in the service, he received the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Anderson Peterson, and a son, Todd Peterson. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Rae Peterson of Roxboro, NC , Lynn Peterson Chamblee of Starkville, MS , and Denise Peterson Byrd of Louisville; a brother, Marvin S. Peterson of Minneapolis,MN; eleven grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren.
