James Lovorn

Mr. James Lamar “Jimmy” Lovorn, 81, of Louisville, Mississippi, died peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Aurora Nursing Home in Columbus, Mississippi, with his wife Amanda by his side. The Lovorns were married for fifty-three years, and had two sons. Jimmy was a cattleman, tree farmer, and co-owner of Lovorn Tractor Company along with his brother Bobby Lovorn. Jimmy attended Rocky Hill School where he was awarded the Valedictorian Award, Louisville High School graduating in 1951, and the University of Mississippi with a degree in geology graduating in 1955. He was a member of the Winstonville Masonic Lodge #277, the Hamasa Temple, and a member of the Winston County Shrine Club. Mr. Lovorn was a member of the Masons for fifty years. He was also a member of the Louisville Chapter #60 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Lovorn was a member of the Board of Directors for the Winston County Farm Bureau for over forty years where he also served as the President of the Board. He was a member of the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association and the Mississippi Forestry Association. He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska from 1955-1957. Jimmy was also a member of the Hardee Bunch who gathered daily for coffee and conversation. Jimmy was named Farmer of the Year by the Winston County Chamber of Commerce in 1990, received the Award of Merit from the Resource Conservation Organization in 1993, and was named Outstanding Livestock Producer in 1997 by the Winston County Soil and Water Conservation District. Jimmy was a member of Enon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Jimmy was preceded in death by, his son Douglas Lovorn; his parents Dr. Everett Lovorn and Wille Mae Yarbrough Lovorn; brothers: Everett Lovorn, Charles Lovorn, O.T. Lovorn, Murrah Lovorn, Ralph Lovorn, and Bobby Lovorn; sisters: Mary Tillery, Grace Vebeck, and Polly Thomas; Lovorn. He is survived by his wife Amanda Anderson Lovorn, son Allan Lamar Lovorn (Lynn), and three grandchildren, Jenna Lovorn, Allayna Lovorn, all of Louisville, and Joshua Connor Lovorn of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dan Lovorn of Louisville, Lucy Anderson Ivey (Steve) Baytown, TX, Apryl Anderson Case (Jim) Bryant, AR, and brother-in-law, Steve Anderson (Sherry) of Louisville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Jimmy’s illness. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 6, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Hamasa Transportation Fund in association with the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 365, Meridian, Mississippi 39302.
