Mrs. Audrea Louise Jones Hobgood, 85, passed away on March 28, 2015 from heart disease. She was born on March 26, 1930 and grew up in Belen, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Mary Ellis and Houston Carl Jones. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Millsaps College where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She taught high school history and English for over twenty-eight years at various schools with the majority of that time spent at Manchester Academy in Yazoo City, Mississippi. After teaching, she worked for several years with the Mississippi Department of Human Services as a parenting counselor. She was a well-respected and loved teacher, known for her work as yearbook sponsor and band parent. In 1985, she was awarded the honor of Mississippi Private School Association Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the DAR. Audrea married the late Russell Elliott Hobgood, Jr. on December 23, 1951. She is survived by their three children: Mary Edith Butler of North Aurora, Illinois; Russell Elliott Hobgood, III (Doris) of Flowood; and Sara Lloyd (Ben) of Oxford. She is also survived by her brother, Houston Carl Jones, Jr. of Glenwood, Arkansas; her sister-in-law, Rich Hobgood Richmond (Al) of Sedona, Arizona and four grandchildren: Kathryn Hobgood of Hattiesburg; Lauren Hobgood of Troy, Alabama; David Hust (Jessi) of Jackson; and Chloe Lloyd of Oxford. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Chris Butler; her daughter-in-law, Jean Hobgood; and her sister-in-law, Billie Jo Jones. The family would like to thank the Hobgoods’ caregiver, Cindy Strawbridge Phelps, for her loving care and personal service. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Monday, March 30 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. There will be a graveside service at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 31, at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to French Camp Academy or the Salvation Army.
