Dorothy (Dot) Crenshaw Young, 86, of Louisville, MS, left the pains of this world on January 24, 2014 and entered into rest to await Jesus’ return. Dorothy was born in Lauderdale County to the late Trudie Hughes and William Joseph Crenshaw on October 16, 1927. She graduated from Louisville High School and East Central Junior College. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator before marrying Guy Young in 1952 and embarking on her most cherished roles of wife and mother. Throughout her life, she was passionate about giving back to her community. In addition to volunteering with the American Heart Association for over 25 years, she taught at Calvary Baptist Church and participated in Home Demonstration Club and Women’s Missionary Union. Dorothy believed in investing in future generations and stayed involved in the Louisville PTA even after her children had graduated from school. She opened her home for various 4-H club meetings, visiting missionaries, revival preachers and an occasional Boy Scout troop expedition. Dorothy always loved a good story, a good joke, good friends and good times with her family. She modeled loyalty to those around her, and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by Guy B. Young, her husband of 61 years; three daughters - Barbara Walker (Rick Walker) of Louisville, MS, Debbie Miles (Doug Miles) of Daphne, AL, and Lisa Bratton (James Bratton) of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren – Lindsey Miles Richardson (Will Richardson), Christopher Lee Walker (Carla Walker), Lauren Miles Crawford (Jeff Crawford), and Alison Gayle Walker; and three great-grandchildren – Miles Richardson, Micah Richardson, and Brynn Crawford. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents – Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Crenshaw and her two brothers – Thomas Louis Crenshaw and Bill Crenshaw, all of Louisville, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be given to Calvary Baptist Church (Louisville, MS) or the American Heart Association. The visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Sunday, January 26, at Porter Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at Porter Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Chris Walker and Rev. Curtis Guess officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
