Mr. John Wendell Carter, 79, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 12th, at Liberty Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Parrish, Rev. Doug Wise, and Danny Cheatham officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Liberty Cemetery. Mr. Carter was born July 24, 1934, in Winston County, MS. He was a dedicated husband and father always setting a godly example. He retired after 22 years as Master Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force serving in Turkey, Vietnam, Germany, Thialand and several stateside locations. He was also retired from Louisville Public School System as head of audiovisual and computer systems, and worked at Winston Medical Center as head of maintenance and the ambulance service. Many of his retirement days were spent tinkering with clocks in the family business, John's Clocks and Antiques. His loyalty to His Lord was spent serving in various positions at Liberty Baptist Church. He was chairman of Deacons and led the way to the establishment of the Family Life Center. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Carter; his parents, Velna and Holder Carter; and a sister, Ercel Burks. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Webb Carter; a daughter, Angie (Ray) Hisaw of Louisville; two sons, Terry (Re-C) Carter of Louisville, and Ken (Julie) Carter of Madison, MS; 6 grandchildren, Rachael C. Bounds, Jade C. Gallagher, Becca Carter, John Mark Carter, Dylan Hisaw, and Ryan Smyth; and four great grandchildren, Hydie Grace Gallagher, Carter Gallagher, Bryson Gallagher, and Rivers Bounds. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Liberty Cemetery Fence Fund, c/o Betty Byrd, 180 Stanley Road, Noxapater, MS 39346. Pallbearers will be Mike Perkins, Josh Bounds, John Mark Carter, Ray Hisaw, Dylan Hisaw, and Ryan Smyth. Granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
