Mr. John Paul Covington, 81, passed away on March 21, 2013 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23rd, 9:30 to 11:00 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Services will immediately follow at 11:00 with the Reverend Billy Bowie officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville. Paul was born January 11, 1932, in Philadelphia, Mississippi to the late William Roper and Eileen Kilpatrick Covington. He received a B.S. degree from Mississippi State University. He met Annie Jane Edwards on a blind date and soon after entered the U. S. Army. He was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He continued to pursue their relationship through often time daily correspondence, and upon his return they married in 1954. He was a faithful Christian, devoted husband and father, and enterprising businessman. He attended First Baptist Church in Louisville and served as a deacon and leader in his Church for many years. Beginning in his early 20’s, he envisioned and acted upon various work related opportunities and successfully owned and operated his own businesses. Some of those endeavors included : a barbecue business, Paul’s Meat Service, a vibrant farm, and others until his retirement in his 70’s. Many of his business ventures were undertaken with his son and always with his family at his side. In his leisure time, Paul enjoyed Mississippi State events, conversations with his wife, hunting and fishing with his son and cooking, laughter, and joking with his daughters. Throughout his life, he remained a faithful Christian, dedicated husband and father, and was devoted to his friends and work. Paul is survived by his wife, Annie Jane (Ann) Covington, one son, Jimmy Covington (Noxapater), and three daughters, Linda Humphries (David), Louisville; Cathy Coleman (Billy), Columbus; and Beth Fleming (Trey), Vicksburg; and a brother, David Covington of Noxapater. His grandchildren are Evan and Eric Humphries, Tyler and Anna Claire Coleman, and Reagan and Robert Fleming. Pallbearers are David Humphries, Evan Humphries, Billy Coleman, Tyler Coleman, Trey Fleming, and Reagan Fleming.
