Mrs. Ruth Rodgers Stringer, 84, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, Feb. 11, at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Scott Phillips and Rev. Bob Schwanebeck officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Stringer was born June 17, 1926, in Louisville, MS. She was a retired school teacher of 31 years with Louisville Public Schools, and graduated from MSCW with a B.S. in Education. She was very active in The Republican Women of Winston County, having previously served as president, and a member of The Fortnightly Club. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gene Stringer Sr.; her parents, Henry Herman Rodgers and Leita Louise Rodgers; four sisters, Julia Baker, Margaret Rodgers, Ellen Gross, and Hazie Furr; and two brothers, Henry Rodgers and Herman Rodgers. She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Gary) Brewer of Florence, MS; a son, Gene (Linda) Stringer of Stockbridge, GA; and a grandson, Andrew Brewer of Clinton, MS.
