Mrs. Velma Ruth Hooks, 96, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at her home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 3rd at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Brett Golson and Rev. Billy Bowie officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hooks was born January 7, 1915, in Chickasaw County, MS. She was a retired customer service representative for Spartus Corporation, and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, The Joy Club, and The Grace Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Caleb Hooks Sr.; a son, George Caleb Hooks Jr.; her parents, Arthur D. Ruth and Edna Irene Thomas; four brothers, Gilman Ruth, B.T. Ruth, Charles Ruth, Leon Ruth, and Grady Ruth; and one sister, Dorothy Faye Acker. She is survived by one daughter, Ouida (William) Donald of Louisville, MS; two sons, Kenneth E. Hooks of Louisville, MS and Johnnie Horace (Pat) Hooks of Howell, MI ; a sister, Lavelle Haggard of Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
