Miss Georgia Lorene Wood, 84, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 28th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Chris Vowell officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. Friday until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater. Ms. Wood was born May 28, 1926, in Louisville. She was a graduate of East Central Community College, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Lorene worked for the Winston County Journal for many years in advertisement and making pictures of all school activities, athletic events, and happenings in the county. Later, she operated Lorene’s Photo Shop and made wedding, family memories, and a host of pictures. She was a caring person and loved people – her journal office people, her church people, and especially the children in the nursery department, which she kept for years. She was a generous with her time and money. Her special interest was flowers, and for years the Wood family had the most beautiful yard and all the work was done by her. She grew the flowers and arranged them for special occasions and had a collection of pictures she made. She knew most people in the county, and to the end, she could tell where they lived and something about them. She loved the birds and butterflies, cats, and dogs and cows – everything was well taken care of. At the nursing home, she still tried to feed the birds and butterflies. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Wood of Louisville; a brother, Jim (Ann) Wood of Louisville; two nephews, Jim (Deborah) Duncan and James (Renee) Woods; two great nephews, Scott Wood and Greg Duncan; and two great-nieces, Brandi Duncan (Josh) Herrington and Megan Wood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Winston County Library, 301 West Park Street, Louisville, MS, 39339.
