Mr. John W. Kinard, 85, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 29th, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kinard was born May 13, 1925, in Winston County, MS. He served during World War II in North Africa and Italy, including the Battle of Monte Cassino. He was twice wounded, awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery under fire. With the war’s end, he returned to Starkville, Ms, where he met and married Mary Emma Gregg. On May 25th, they would have been married for 65 years. He was a retired welder, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Louisville He is survived by his wife, Mary Gregg Kinard; three sons, James Kinard of Ohio, Mike Kinard, of Louisville, MS, and John A. Kinard, of West Sacramento, CA; one daughter, Brenda Frank, of Dallas, TX; a sister, Margaret Rushing, of Union Grove, WI; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
